"Pandora is really a companion to radio, not a replacement." Doug Sterne, Director of Audio Sales, Pandora, MediaLife.com, January 7, 2010
Bridge Ratings just released data which suggests evidence that the popular online music service is losing customer interest over time:
The study reports, "over time...the satisfaction level is affected by "fatigue or boredom" and "the longer consumers use Pandora, fatigue and/or tedium sets in as users become accustomed to the programming 'style' of Pandora."
The irony to Pandora lies in the conclusion of the report which states that the "the very reason for it's appeal, music discovery based on artist selection, is also Pandora's time-spent-listening Achilles' heel.
In a different study from Edison Research it was discovered that Terrestrial Radio remains one of the leading sources for learning about new music. Radio gives value where Pandora cannot.
"Pandora is a Juke Box that offers only music and commercials to listeners. And sometimes, that’s exactly what someone might want. Local AM/FM Streams are Virtual Neighborhoods which deliver a very different entertainment experience from a Juke Box – one that has emotional connections to its listeners and incorporates advertisers as part of their programming." - Mary Beth Garber
When it comes to new music, local community, and feeling connected, Radio wins at satisfying the needs of the people.
